Wellington Bell Ringing
Wellington bell ringing takes place at Wellington Cathedral and Old St Paul's. There is a further, unringable, ring of bells at St Peter's. More details are provided below.

Wellington Cathedral Ringing

Wellington Cathedral has 14 bells, ranging in size from Little James(4 cwt) to the People's Bell(27¾ cwt). The bell tower was completed and bells were installed by Taylors of Loughborough in 1984. Seven of the bells were already 100 years old at that stage, being recycled from the demolished St Edmund's Church in Northampton, England. The Cathedral bells are hung for English Change Ringing.

Non-ringing visitors are invited to visit the bell tower during Sunday service ringing (9.15 - 10.00am and 4.00 – 5.00pm, unless there is a quarter peal); just take the lift to the 3rd floor.

Visiting ringers are welcome to Sunday ringing and to Tuesday night practice, from 7.30pm to 9.00pm. Please see the Visiting Ringers page for more information.

If you would like to learn to ring please get in touch with one of the Cathedral contacts. You will be very welcome.

You can see information about our current ringers by following The Ringers link.

Wellington Festival 2011

Each year we hold a Ringing Festival at New Zealand Labour weekend. In 2011, we welcomed seven ringers from Melbourne, four from Hamilton and one each from Auckland and Christchurch. As well as plenty of general ringing for all levels of expertise, we have a dinner and several quarter peal attempts. All ringers are welcome. For more details see Ringing Festival.
Old St Paul's Ringing

Old St Paul's, Wellington

There are 5 bells at Old St Paul's, the tenor being nearly the same weight as the lightest bell at the Cathedral. It is a ground floor ring. Practice night is the first Tuesday in the month (6.30-7.15pm). Check with one of the Old St Paul's contacts to make sure there is a practice, as they can be irregular. We try and arrange for visitors to the Cathedral to ring at Old St Paul's, if they are visiting on a Sunday.

St Peter's on Willis (Wellington)

St Peter's, Wellington

There is a ring of 8 bells installed at St Peter's. They are unringable. More details of the bells can be found on St Peter's web site.
